Seventeen years, wow, that's a loooong time! It's not that I have not been painting in all of those years, because I've actually painted quite a bit, just not really for myself. The art produced has been a mix of demonstration work for books, demonstration work for workshops, and the odd personal work just to blow off steam when I've actually had the time to do it.
There was also that few year stint when I had Rhenium Studio and produced one of a kind decorative boxes, mirrors and picture frames. That was fun, but it's tough to make a living on functional art unless you either produce a lot of it, or put a higher price tag on it. At least, that was my experience. I did love painting those boxes, though. Six sides of texture, they were my painted jewels.
Now I'm working on wall art, and when it's not doing my head in, it's really freeing. This upcoming studio tour is a baby step towards taking firmer, more determined big girl steps into the exhibition world. I'd like to invite you to look, to touch and experience the paintings. They are meant to be in living spaces where it's OK to touch the art.
