The New Acrylics

Complete Guide to the New Generation of Acrylic Paints

My first book, published in 2005, was the result of a conversation between me and Candace Raney, the executive acquisitions editor at Watson-Guptill Publications. We met at an art materials trade show in 1999 where we talked about the need for a book about modern acrylics, how there are used, and how to understand them. I sought to produce a book that was intrinsically about the material, and present it in as clear and clean a format as possible.

Leaning heavily on design magazines and cookbooks, I worked with my photographer, Jonathan Sugarman, and photo stylist Grace Paulionis, to create images that were uncluttered, fresh and illustrative. All of the paint materials shown in the book are produced by Tri-Art Mfg., however, at the time of production I made the decision to not include packaging or branding information on any materials, so that the book could be used as a more universal reference. Here are some photos from the book.
