I love this feather, encased in layers of tinted gel, it has become a texture, a part of the fabric of the painting. Organics usually find their way into my paintings, though unlike this intentional feather, they are mostly stray hairs, mine or the dog's or years ago the cat's. These stowaways floating or creeping into the composite of paint, like little bugs into amber. There is a piece of mine from the mid '90's that actually contains the carcasses of about a half dozen spiders and bugs that I found in the dry corners of my studio.
THE (mostly) DAILY DETAIL
I get really jazzed over the little details in artwork. In the process of working, and sometimes long after a piece is finished, there are these small areas that grab me, draw me in, entrance me. It could be the way a texture has been wrought, or how the colours shimmer next to one another, or how quiet the space feels when I focus on it.
